چکیده
Heights are functions that measure the arithmetic complexity of an algebraically defined object. They have become a major tool in many branches of number theory such as Diophantine analysis, transcendental number theory, Diophantine approximation, arithmetic of dynamical systems, etc. Moreover, they have also some very subtle functorial and functional properties, making it worthwile to study them for their own sake, e.g. the famous but notoriously difficult Lehmer problem, originated in [22].

A note on generators of number fields
We establish upper bounds for the smallest height of a generator of a number field k over the rational field Q. Our first bound applies to all number fields k having at least one real embedding. We also give a second conditional result for all number fields k such that the Dedekind zeta-function associated to the Galois closure of k/Q satisfies GRH. This provides a partial answer to a question ...
متن کاملLipschitz class, Narrow class, and counting lattice points
A well known principle says that the number of lattice points in a bounded subsets S of Euclidean space is about the ratio of the volume and the lattice determinant, subject to some relatively mild conditions on S. In the literature one finds two different types of such conditions; one asserts the Lipschitz parameterizability of the boundary ∂S, and the other one is based on intersection proper...

متن کاملOn number fields with nontrivial subfields
What is the probability for a number field of composite degree d to have a nontrivial subfield? As the reader might expect the answer heavily depends on the interpretation of probability. We show that if the fields are enumerated by the smallest height of their generators the probability is zero, at least if d > 6. This is in contrast to what one expects when the fields are enumerated by the di...
متن کامل"Hands of fame": a new tool to improve dedication of key opinion leader for hand hygiene
Introduction / objectives Compliance of hand hygiene is frequently less than optimal and heavily depends on the dedication of the key opinion leaders. There are few tools to support their role model for hand hygiene. Dedicated days, information campaigns and similar activities lead to tremendous, but short-lived impact on the hand hygiene compliance. Psychological studies have shown, that a pub...
